Synopsis

In the Absence of White Rabbits is an examination of Sarah Caldwell’s deteriorating psychosis, her relationship with her psychiatrist, and the discrepancies
between what she experiences and what she communicates to her doctor.

An outstanding student in mathematics with a promising academic career, Sarah first sees the psychiatrist under a doctor’s recommendation, not fully believing there is anything significantly abnormal about her state of mind. As her struggle to understand and overcome her increasingly controlling inner world becomes too much to bear, she spirals into a habit self-destructive behaviour.

In an attempt to overcome her loneliness, Sarah shares her day with two imaginary companions, Laura and Kayla, each of whom has a particular role of protector to play.

Strong, interpersonal dynamics weave together a story of depression, confusion, loneliness, hope, and friendship.
